casey_olivia. Technically only features Casey because after "Blinded" I'm having serious problems picturing Olivia in situations other than being defenestrated from 15 stories up. Un-beta'ed, so feel free to point out problems.
Disclaimer: Casey belongs toOlivia Benson Dick Wolf, along with all the SVU elements of the story. AFAIK the card is mine, so no credit to Hallmark. But I'll sell it if they want it.
Some days are better than others for Casey Novak, but she keeps going strong. The idea of transferring to a different department never even crosses her mind. McCoy would have her transferred to traffic court or worse if it had. People in the DA's office aren't exactly fighting to work Sex Crimes, after all. Casey knows she not irreplaceable, but she's definitely needed. The detectives are nearly impossible to deal with, but having them figured out helps immensely. She doesn't envy Cragen spending that much time with them. Casey gets her fill as it is.
Despite her best efforts to be cheerful today of all days, it was rough going, and that desire was soon beat out of her. Poring over the case files of victims that will never enjoy another birthday only made her feel guilty for making it to each of hers. The arraignments of two perps drove home the unfairness of life; the guilty grow older but the innocent miss the experience.
Calling it a day, Casey returned to her office after the second arraignment to retrieve a few items before starting for home. On her desk she found a delicate crystal vase filled with purple calla lilies and a card propped up against it. On the outside of the card's envelope, in her lover's hand, it said, "Casey. Happy Birthday."
She opened the card. Pictured was a drawing of a woman holding out a red heart-shaped birthday cake covered with candles. The inside was white except for one printed line and a short handwritten note:
On her way home, Casey stopped for a half-gallon of chocolate fudge brownie ice cream, the perfect addition to what looked to be a wonderful birthday evening.

You are the flame of my heart.Casey had to smile. Liv knew her too well.
I heard you were having a rough day.
The whiskey at home is smooth. And so are the sheets.
I should be able to find some moves to match.
We can do whatever you think will improve your day.
Happy Birthday,
Liv
